When you’re planning a family vacation at an ultra-luxury resort, the same doubt usually comes up: will it be too formal to bring kids? And right before we left, while searching for information about the hotel online, I had the impression that The St. Regis Punta Mita, with its Michelin key, is a destination designed almost entirely for couples or adults seeking complete disconnection.
Since we were eager to visit Punta Mita, given how close it is to Guadalajara, we decided to give The St. Regis Punta Mita a chance for our family vacation with our 3-year-old daughter. Here I share our honest experience, with its highlights and the key details to consider before booking.
I also invite you to read my recent article on another hotel in the area: Conrad Punta Mita with Small Children: Family Guide and Review.
🛎️ Arrival / Rooms / Butler: Calm, Luxury and Practicality
From the moment you enter the hotel, it feels like true luxury: the beautiful grounds, the impeccable service and the delicious scent instantly put you in vacation mode.
We stayed in a “Casita Room with garden views.” The room itself is very spacious, bright and designed to be genuinely functional and luxurious. It has an entryway where you can leave your shoes or the stroller, a spacious full bathroom plus an additional outdoor shower, a walk-in closet and a large terrace overlooking the garden. In our case, my 3-year-old daughter slept on the armchair in the room.
💡 Tip to consider: The armchair in my room was relatively small, meaning it’s not a sofa bed that pulls out. If your children are older, it’s best to consider a different room layout (such as a junior suite or two queen beds).

A few minutes after entering the room, your assigned butler arrives to introduce themselves. The St. Regis butler service is one of the hotel’s greatest luxuries and truly makes a difference in family logistics. We used the service to coordinate golf cart transfers in seconds, to request complimentary freshly brewed coffee in the room, or even to ask for a mini bathrobe in my daughter’s size. ☕✨

🌊 Pools and Beach: Fun for Them or Rest for You?
At the time of my booking, there were 3 pool areas available: one for adults, a multi-level family pool with a splash zone, and the one next to the beach. It’s worth mentioning that unlike my recent stay at Conrad Punta Mita, at this hotel, even when there are people around, the layout of the pools makes it feel more private.
- 🏊♀️ The family pool (Las Marietas): It’s located just a few steps from the main restaurant, so ordering fresh fruit, snacks or drinks to your lounge chair is incredibly easy. This pool is spread across several levels, and at the bottom there’s a “splash” zone with little water jets for the kids.
- 🍹 Sea Breeze Pool: Ideal if you want to alternate between the pool and the beach, since it connects directly and has a relaxed, casual vibe.
- 🏖️ The beach: Unlike other areas with rough surf, the bay in front of the hotel has a section where the water is calm. Something important to note is that there’s a rocky area, so while there is a smooth stretch, it’s not what predominates.
- 🛶 The hotel itself offers paddleboarding or kayaking, and given the beach conditions, it’s easy to collect little shells with the kids. 🐚

At the pool entrances you’ll find stations with complimentary sunscreen, and the staff often comes around spontaneously with fresh fruit skewers, frozen popsicles and cold towels. 🍉🍦
💡 Traveler tip: In the beach area you can ask for beach toys for the kids, which they provide right there. 🏖️
🐢 Kids Club: La Tortuga
To be completely honest, this was the part that fell a little short for us. The club welcomes children ages 5 to 12 without parental supervision, but since my daughter is 3, the hotel’s policy is that an adult must stay with her at all times.

Although the space is clean and well maintained, the atmosphere felt quite quiet; during the time we were there, the space was practically empty, with a maximum of two other children, so it didn’t have that social or fun dynamic you usually find at other kids clubs.
- ⚠️ If you’re traveling with children under 5: Keep in mind that you won’t be able to leave them alone to go to the pool or the restaurant; you’ll have to stay there with them. The alternative is to hire the resort’s babysitting service for an additional fee.
🍽️ Family Dining Experience
In Punta Mita, logistics usually revolve around staying within the resort, so having varied options is key at this kind of place.
💡 Tip for families: At the time of my stay, children under 5 ate free at these restaurants, so if meals tend to be pricey, it offsets the cost a bit if you have children under 5.
- 🌮 The lobby restaurant (The St. Regis Bar / Altamira): It’s located at the top of the lobby, with a very pleasant terrace and a beautiful view of the property and the sea. They have delicious tacos and cocktails. My 3-year-old daughter enjoyed having quesadillas for dinner here.

- 🥞 Breakfast at Las Marietas: Without a doubt, one of the best breakfasts in the area. The buffet is varied and delicious, but if you, like me, don’t need that much food, I thought it was a plus that you have the option to order à la carte.
- We also visited this restaurant for lunch and dinner.

- 🍕 Sea Breeze at midday and in the afternoon: For casual meals in beach attire. At midday they offer fresh ceviches and burgers; in the evenings it becomes a relaxed trattoria with pastas and wood-fired pizzas that kids love.
🖍️ Tip with small children: You can ask for paper and crayons to keep the kids entertained at the table while you eat.

✨ Conclusion: Is The St. Regis Punta Mita Worth It with Family?
My definitive answer is yes, but with clear expectations.
The St. Regis Punta Mita is not a resort designed for experiences where keeping the kids entertained is the top priority. If your number one priority is having your children entertained all day in a Kids Club full of kids, water slides or a completely soft sandy beach, then an option like Conrad Punta Mita will probably suit your family dynamic better.
However, if what you’re looking for is a true ultra-luxury getaway, where as an adult you can rest, eat spectacularly, enjoy quiet pools and experience impeccable service, this hotel exceeds expectations.
It’s an ideal destination for families seeking luxurious rest, enjoying slow mornings by the sea and living an elegant experience without feeling like the kids are out of place. We would definitely go back, understanding that the plan here is to enjoy the calm, the comfort and the beauty of the place at your own pace. 🌅💛
